About

Robert Brunner is one of the most influential industrial designers of the modern era, known for shaping how technology is experienced through products, brands, and human-centered design. Over a career spanning more than four decades, his work has helped define consumer electronics, wearables, and emerging human–AI interfaces—bridging visionary creativity with practical execution at the highest levels.

Brunner is best known for his transformative role as Director of Industrial Design at Apple from 1989 to 1996, where he established and led the company’s pioneering internal design studo. The design philosophy he helped define during this period laid the foundation for generations of iconic products. Prior to Apple, he co-founded the design consultancy LUNAR, and following his time there, he became a partner at Pentagram in San Francisco, leading strategic brand and industrial design programs for Fortune 500 companies.

Since the founding of Beats by Dr. Dre in 2006, Brunner has served as the company’s lead designer, shaping the brand’s distinctive product language from its earliest days through its acquisition by Apple and continuing today. His work at Beats helped redefine consumer audio, blending performance, culture, and emotional connection into a category-defining design legacy.

In 2007, Brunner founded Ammunition, an internationally respected design studio dedicated to communicating ideas through products, brands, and experiences. His work has earned more than 250 international design awards and is held in the permanent collections of major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art. He was named by Fast Company Magazine as one of the most creative people in business, and was a recipient of The National Design Award for product design by the Smithsonian Institution. A sought-after speaker and co-author of Do You Matter? Brunner speaks globally on innovation, creativity, and leadership through design.
